Happy Students
“The reason I started the class was to accompany my 15 year old daughter Katie who wanted to study art for 3 months as part of her bronze DofE challenge.  My daughter has now had to move on to study other things but I am hooked and look forward to many more Saturday morning classes.  I particularly like the way the group is capable of including and developing people of different ages with different skill levels and experience.” Amanda
“The Saturday painting group is a highlight of my week. I always feel inspired to take what I learned forward in my own work and if I don’t have the time to produce other work the sessions are a perfect outlet of my creativity.” Astrid
“I am extremely happy with this course. The combination of painting exercises and ideas is very stimulating and has allowed me to gain insight into principles of colour, composition and the use of painting techniques through practice. The discussions about each other’s paintings at the end of each session are particularly useful and enjoyable. The teaching is excellent: it is thoughtful, challenging and controlled without being prescriptive. These classes are exactly what I was hoped for to develop my painting and I really look forward to Saturday mornings.” Alison
About Our Tutor, Penny Skerrett
“Having graduated with a BA in Fine Art I have continued working in the arts as a practicing artist, curator, furniture maker and tutor. Over the last ten years I have been increasingly interested in the relationship between art and ecology. I studied for an MA in this subject and it is within this field that I now practice. I use a range of media and have a wide experience of using different materials. Drawing has always been important to my practice and looking with close attention is fundamental both to my own practice and the way that I teach art.  My aim for the class is to foster a friendly, nurturing and creative environment. I encourage the  students to experiment and to develop their skills in close attention, painting and critical analysis.” Penny Skerrett
